UMD & UMB Seed Grant Program
The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campuses are pleased to co-host the joint Research and Innovation Seed Grant Program. The intent of this initiative is to promote structured collaboration between UMD and UMB and to advance the institutions’ joint goals in research and innovation.Since 2008 the UM Research and Innovation Seed Grant Program has:Fostered creative teams of investigators working across disciplinary boundaries and campuses;Supported new research foci and basic science tracks to pursue future health care improvements and/or technologies; andStimulated submission and funding of innovative basic and translational science research proposals to federal, public or private funding agencies.Historically, there have been four to seven awards funded per year, in the range of $50,000 to $75,000; the final number of awards will depend on the quality and quantity of proposals received as well as the proposed budgets. It is expected that the budgeted awards will be distributed equally between the two PIs or institutions, whichever is appropriate.
UM Ventures provides unified licensing and patenting services and joint marketing to the business community to increase efficiency and productivity.UM Ventures is a joint initiative of the MPowering the State Program, bringing the University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland, College Park together to commercialize discoveries, and create economic impact by engaging partners in industry and social ventures. By encouraging our students and faculty, providing expert advice and business services, more discoveries will reach the market. By engaging directly with external partners we will bring new investment, expanded markets and more startup ventures.The UM Ventures internal Advisory Board was formed in August 2012. Its members are the Deans of Business, Engineering, and Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences at UMCP and the Deans of Law, Medicine, and Pharmacy at UMB. The Board is co-chaired by the UMCP Vice President of Research, and UMB Vice President of Enterprise and Economic Development.
